Let’s
Talk About Money - Part One -
It takes
open and honest communication to overcome and/or prevent money problems.
It also takes a good deal of time and effort.
Talking about money with your partner can be difficult to say the
least. It takes a lot more than just talking about your income, how
much actual items cost, and who is spending what.
What
exactly does money mean to you? Think about that. Some people will
equate money with power while others will look at it as status or
security. Take a good amount of time to find out what money means
to you as well as your partner.
Schedule
some time with your partner to have an open and honest discussion
about money. Here are some tips to help the discussion:
Everyone
likes to feel like their input and ideas are being taken into consideration
when a decision is made. This is important. Try your best to take
a democratic approach.
Make sure all family members, even kids, are given an opportunity
to express their opinions. You will see that family members are much
more likely to be satisfied with the overall decisions if they feel
like they’ve had a say in the final outcome.
